The essentials

Understand email marketing.

What is email marketing?

Email marketing uses email to share useful information, introduce offers and support customer relationships. It works best when messages are relevant to the people receiving them.

What kinds of emails can a business send?

Examples include newsletters, welcome messages, product updates and educational sequences. Choose the format according to what subscribers expect and what you want to help them do.

What is email automation?

Automation sends a prepared message or sequence when a defined event occurs. A welcome email after signup is one example. The content and sending rules still need review.

What can a project include?

A project can cover a list review, signup journey, templates, copy, campaign setup and reporting. Agree which messages and integrations are included before starting.

Your questions, answered.

Do I need an email list first?

You need an appropriate audience and a clear signup process. A small list of people who want your messages is a better starting point than unrelated addresses.

Should I buy an email list?

We recommend building a list through clear, voluntary signup. Purchased addresses may be irrelevant and can create permission and deliverability problems.

How often should I send emails?

Set expectations at signup and choose a frequency you can support with useful content. Review the response and avoid sending only because a calendar says to.

What is segmentation?

Segmentation groups subscribers by relevant characteristics or activity, allowing different people to receive more appropriate messages.

What is the difference between a newsletter and an automated sequence?

A newsletter is usually sent as a scheduled campaign. An automated sequence follows predefined rules, such as messages after someone signs up.

How should results be measured?

Consider clicks, replies, useful website actions and unsubscribes. Open rates alone are not a complete picture of interest or business value.

Will emails always reach the inbox?

No. List quality, sending practices, technical configuration and the recipient’s provider affect delivery. No campaign can guarantee inbox placement for every message.

What should I provide?

Share your sending platform, signup process, audience, brand assets and campaign goals. We can then agree the templates, messages and reporting you need.
